The ‘Addolorata’ for Votiva

An icon that still bears visible signs of a chronic malaise, of an unspeakable pain. This is the vision of the Sorrowful Lady, a woman and a mother before even a mere symbol of worship, which encloses in every laceration, in each line that draws its image and in the expression on its face, that exact moment in which its heart has been shattered, Almost a snapshot full of pathos and resignation that tells us about broken hugs and an unforgivable loss. Represented in the whiteness of the virginal white, Our Lady suddenly becomes matter and spirit, incarnation of a symbol found and more than ever current, a mirror in which to recognize the present and at the same time recognize ourselves, our finiteness, the limits of the human condition that even with the intellect and heart manages to go beyond and cross the earthly threshold to reach the eternal.

L’Addolorata’, for ‘Votiva’, Permanent Collection of Contemporary Art, City of Parabita (Le). The work, made in glazed majolica ideally represents the zero point of the project, the materialization of that visionary intuition, but at the time still in preparation, of the Mayor of Parabita Stefano Prete, created with the installation of this Madonna in the empty niche and then restored existing on the facade of his studio parabitano.
